Un episodio spiacevole che vede coinvolto Asaichi gli serve per cambiare e comprendere i propri errori e i propri sentimenti, avvicinandosi a Yoru e scrivendo con lui una canzone. Quest'ultimo si dimostra molto ostile nei confronti del giovane androgino. Nonostante queste premesse, Yoru decide di abbandonare il proprio ruolo di cantante per diventare il bassista della band di Asa. Yoru (notte in giapponese) si è innamorato di Asaichi (Asa significa mattina), un cantante mediocre e omofobo. Upon its initial publication in Japan, Battle Royale attracted a lot of attention and controversy due to its startling premise a nightmarish “game” where young 15 year old students are given lethal weapons for a fight to the death. There is also a substantial amount of satire aimed squarely at reality and game shows. Aside from the action, there’s a lot more character development than you might expect in a “pulp” novel. ![]() The action starts early, the tension ratchets up quickly, and the tension increases right up to the incredible finale. This is a novel that should be part of the definition of a “book you can’t put down”. Battle Royale by Koushun Takami is one of the most intense action packed thrillers I’ve read. ![]() ![]() ![]() What should be one of the most interesting parts of making contact is explained away with a handwave. (1) It has an alien language that’s ACTUALLY ALIENĪs an armchair-linguist, language interactions with aliens in sci-fi usually end up disappointing. Let’s talk about all three in more detail. Let’s get to it.Īside from just being good fast-paced science fiction, “Story of Your Life” has three things going for it that really set it apart: (1) it has an alien language that’s ACTUALLY ALIEN, (2) its unique structure, and (3) its humanity. Back in High School, I would read Michael Crichton's Travels, some parts many times over, just imagining what it would be like to be able to visit the places he wrote about. I've been to many places in America and I throughly enjoy exploring everywhere I haven't yet been. I love to travel and to take the roads less traveled.
